The jury praised ZOUTMAN for its advanced multimodal logistics strategy, in which road transport is increasingly replaced by inland waterways and rail transport. This strategic modal shift results in measurable impact:

  • 103,934 fewer truck kilometres
  • 125 tonnes of CO₂ emissions avoided

Ambitions go further. In 2026, ZOUTMAN aims to increase the number of avoided road kilometres to 294,715 km. To put this into perspective: that equals more than seven times around the world.

Intermodal hubs and ports play a key role in inbound and outbound transport flows. By organising transport more intelligently, ZOUTMAN structurally reduces its environmental impact and the pressure on road infrastructure.

Sustainable logistics is not a standalone initiative, but a deliberate strategic choice. Fewer trucks on the road mean lower emissions, less congestion and a more efficient logistics chain.

The Baanbreker Award fits within a broader sustainability approach. Since 2024, ZOUTMAN has been working with a dedicated logistics sustainability team focused on structurally reducing transport emissions. The long-term ambition is clear: climate-neutral logistics by 2047.
