De-icing grains for concrete
De-icing grains are a safe alternative for gritting salt when it comes to keeping concrete free from ice. Salt is corrosive and will damage concrete. De-icing grains are also best used for keeping metal or natural stone free from ice.
But be warned, there are various types of de-icing grains.
The most common are UREA and NOCOR. NOCOR de-icing grains for concrete have a lower freezing point than UREA. NOCOR de-icing grains are the safest option for keeping concrete free from ice.
UREA is a cheaper fertiliser. However, its quality varies hugely and there have been various reports of corrosion on concrete after using UREA.
