Salt, so sweet for water!
Just as there are different kinds of salt, so there are different kinds of water. Hard water can cause problems through the build-up of lime-scale and magnesium in hot water systems and pipes. Which is why a water-softener is an ideal investment when it comes to guaranteeing the maximum service life from domestic and other appliances. Soap consumption is also dramatically reduced when you use soft water.
But a water-softener also needs care – and for that you need… salt.
A water-softener works using a column filled with ion resin, which binds the lime-scale and magnesium in the water. When the resin becomes saturated, it has to be rinsed with brine.
Because brine is able to release the lime-scale and magnesium from the resin and bind them to itself. This in turn regenerates the resin.
